Gender Stereotypes

This advertisement shows how back in the day women were always waiting on the men hand and foot. Now a days men and women do the same tasks. This ad shows how the women we always doing work around the house, which is the stereotype of a woman. This as then shows how the man is waiting on the women. This shows how times have changed from back in the day to now. I feel like women now a days do a lot of the same things men did back in the day and vice versa.

This ad is also very direct on when this stereotype was in effect. You can tell by the before picture that they are talking about the time period up until around the 80s-90s. The after picture is also obvious that it is in the time period we are in today. Pictures explain a lot more than people think. Advertisements pull more people in when there are interesting pictures like this one. Rather than women waiting on men hand and foot, men are now helping women out more than they were back in the day.

This next ad shows two generations of women, a mother and a daughter, cleaning with the Mr.Clean Magic Eraser. This is gender stereotyping because it shows two women cleaning up their house. It also mentions its Mother’s Day and that they need to “get back to the job that matters.” With that being said, this product is stereotyping women as being the person who needs to clean the house and not the men.

This Ad can make people mad, especially women. Today most men and women do the same chores around the house and help each other out. I have never seen an ad so obvious to gender stereotyping. This add makes it especially stereotyping when it mentions Mother’s Day. This is a day that the family comes together to give their mothers a nice day, not to hand them a sponge for them to start cleaning the house.

This article shows tools and makeup brushes. This is also a form of stereotyping. Now a days you see men wearing makeup and women with the career of construction workers or even more popular, house flippers. This Ad also has the makeup brushes on a pink background and the tools on a blue background. With pink meaning girls and blue meaning guys, this is another way this ad is stereotyping the different genders.

This ad depicts that women never use tools and men never us makeup brushes. I can see how this will upset some people. When kids are at that age of exploring everything, they probably received a tool box of some sort when they were younger. This explains how this shouldn’t be a stereotype for either gender.

The ad above shows a woman with a “beach body”. This is gender stereotyping because it only shows a woman on the sign. Men can also have the “beach body.” I could easily tell just by looking at the picture on the ad how this was stereotyping genders.

This ad stereotypes women in general as well. Some women are self-confident with their bodies and this ad may make them think everyone needs a beach body. This ad could go both ways, with men and women and with just women. I think this ad portrays how this is gender stereotyping very well.

This last advertisement shows a picture of a group of men and it says “Are you man enough to be a nurse.” This is for sure gender stereotyping because a lot of times you don’t see nurses that are men. Everyone thinks nursing and nursing school is for women, but in reality it is fore whoever wants to be a nurse. I think this ad is great to show how stereotyping really is. I think men in college for nursing school are looked at differently than women enrolled in nursing school and that’s not how its supposed to be.

Men and women can be equally as good at nursing and this ad shows how people really see men as nurses. This ad also shows the men with their different hobbies and what type of nurse they are. This shows anyone can be a nurse no matter what they like to do. I think this is another great ad to demonstrate gender stereotyping.
